What is Coriander?

Coriander is the name for the leaves and stalks of the plant, while the dried seeds are called coriander seeds.

All parts of the plant are edible, but the fresh leaves and the dried seeds (as a spice) are the parts most traditionally used in cooking.

Coriander grows wild over a wide area of Western Asia and Southern Europe. The dry fruits are coriander seeds.

The seeds have a lemony citrus flavour when crushed, due to terpenes linalool and pinene.  

It is a soft plant growing to 50 cm tall. 

The leaves of the plant are commonly called cilantro. Coriander seeds have a pleasing lemony flavor and floral aroma.
